World Sabbath Peace Awardee: Imam Mohamed Almasmari

  • Imam Mohamed Almasmari was born and raised in Detroit, MI where at an early age memorized the entire Qur’an by heart. After completing his primary and secondary education, he left for Yemen to study Islamic Sciences and Islamic Law at Sana’aUniversity. While in Yemen, he began to teach and direct programs and soon after, Imam Almasmari was honored as one of the most influential youth of Yemen. Upon graduating with Honors in jurisprudence and a Master’s Degree in Islamic Law, he returned to the U.S. and was selected to be the Imam of the largest masjid of New York City, where he taught and directed numerous programs.  Currently, Imam Almasmari resides in Bloomfield Hills, MI, where he holds the position of Imam of the Muslim Unity Center in Bloomfield Hills.  He is also a member of Council of Islamic Organizations of Michigan. He has also served as the Executive director of the MMCC (Michigan Muslim Community Council). Imam Almasmari is married and has four Children. People of many faiths are invited frequently to the Muslim Unity Center to learn about each others’ faiths and about Islam.
